Abstract
This paper x-rayed the origin, performance and prospects of Nigerian political parties in the nascent democracy. Using both historical and comparative methods we found that political parties in Nigeria unlike parties of other countries are ideologically deficient and as such cannot act as a catalyst to sustain democracy and good governance.
