The study examines the impact of the security relationship between USA and Nigeria from 2015 to 2020. The aim of the study was to understand the pros and cons of security relations between the US and Nigeria between 2015 and 2020. Within this period, Nigeria faced many security challenges that have not been experienced in over 50 years of its existence as an independent nation. The method of data analysis is thematic analysis, where themes are found in the secondary data that was gathered and adequately analysed to find patterns in achieving the objectives. The study discovered that the advantages of this relationship include the fact that it has helped in combating insecurity and helped train security personnel in the nation as well as reducing the impact of the aftermath of a terrorist act on the affected communities. However, the major strain of this relationship is that it impedes the sovereignty of Nigeria and rarely addresses the root causes of the insecurity issues in the country. With these, the study recommended that the Nigerian government should look elsewhere for help while continuing the relations with the US. At the same time, the US is advised to tailor its programs towards reducing poverty and unemployment in Nigeria
