With the strong faith in education as a panacea for national development has made it possible for Nigeria and beyond to embark on global partnership networking on education for all. Basic education is therefore a reliable tool for any country aspiring for greatness and if realistically translated, will wipe-out illiteracy, dropout and engender the youths to a great extent with spirit of self-reliance. This paper focuses on the concept and objectives of nine-year basic education programme in Nigeria. It carefully examined some of the giant strides made by government, local and international Communities towards UBE delivery bearing in mind its future prospects and challenges.
