Causes of Under-Nutrition among Children Under Two Years as Expressed by Nursing Mothers in Moro Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria

| dc.description.abstract | The study examined causes of under-nutrition among children under two-years. A descriptive research design of survey type was used for this study. The study population comprised of nursing mothers with children under-two years in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to pick the respondents who participated in the study. Two hundred respondents were sampled for the study. Researchers developed a questionnaire validated by four experts in the related field and was used as an instrument for the study. The reliability of the instrument was confirmed through test retest and a coefficient of0.75 was obtained. Data collected for the study were analysed using inferential statistics of chi-square at a 0.05 alpha level of significance. The result showed that the economic status of mothers and their cultural practices contributed to the problem of under-nutrition while their educational status has no influence on children's nutrition in the study area. The study concluded that economic and cultural practices of nursing mothers with children under-two years responsible for under-nutrition while their educational level not responsible for under-nutrition. The researcher recommended among other that the government at all levels should develop measures that will reduce the price of foods and other household needs to enable mothers purchase nutritionally adequate diet that will protect the family against undernutrition. | |
