The neglect and the undermining of the Eastern Niger Delta area of Nigeria's diplomatic history by the Europeans is not surprising because Nigeria and the African continent suffered the same fate. Although the history of the diplomatic institution is generally as old as history itself, the early Europeans ignored the diplomatic history of African societies in general because they saw the area as backward, primitive, and barbaric in its practices and culture.en_US
