Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to discuss issues relating to development agenda for Nigeria in a democratic setting by the year 2020. The paper traced the origin of Nigeria underdevelopment to incessant military intervention in politics. Some of the crises of democracy and development identified in this paper include: corruption, ethnicity, religions bigotry and political violence, among others. The paper argued that a concerted effort to eliminate or reduce the crisis of democracy and development pointed out in this paper will pave way for sustainable development in a democratic setting. The paper concluded by making some recommendations that can guarantee sustainable development in Nigeria. Some of the recommendations include home grown development policies, outright rejection of foreign economic blue print and periodic review of the constitution.
