Ricinus communis (Castor) seed was defatted with n-hexane and divided into two. A part was inoculated with Penicillum expansium for six weeks, while the other part was used as control. Both the biologically detoxified castor seed cake (BDCSC) and the undetoxified castor seed cake (UCSC) were analysed for nutritional value by carrying out proximate analyses, investigating the mineral contents and the amino acid profiles. The results revealed a reduction in the crude protein and crude fiber contents in the BDCSC, while there was increment in the moisture and ash contents after the treatment, but the fat contents was not affected. Though, there was a decrease in the crude protein contents, the amino acid profile of the BDCSC is however comparable with those of soybean as well as FAO/WHO recommended minimum daily limits. This research has revealed that treating castor seed cake biologically may improve the availability of the cake for animal feeds. Nonetheless, the detoxified seed cake needs to be analysed further in order to determine the level of its anti-nutrient contents.en_US
