Nigeria stands at a critical point in its developmental journey, grappling with a persistent energy crisis that hampers socio-economic growth and environmental sustainability despite being rich in natural resources. Exploring alternatives beyond fossil fuels is critical for combating the effects of climate change and lowering reliance on limited resources. The paper explores the implications and policy considerations of adopting alternative energy technologies, emphasizing the need for a balanced and diversified approach to energy transition. A mixed method approach was used to highlights the importance of technological innovation, regulatory frameworks and investment incentives in overcoming barriers to alternative energy solutions and fostering energy system transformation. A sample size of 104 was selected from a population of professionals in the energy and mining sectors using the purposive sampling technique. A 24-item questionnaire including the demographic data was used as instrument. Multinomial Logistic Regression (MLR) model with R was applied to make prediction on respondents' choices about the most promising renewable energy source for Nigeria within solar, wind and biomass categories. Accuracy level was 93% and 69% for training and testing predictions respectively. Through the thematic analysis done with QDA miner application, results obtained show that government policies and expected economic benefits are the main factors affecting renewable energy adaptability in Nigeria. Shifting towards renewable energy helps mitigate these environmental impacts, reducing carbon emissions and contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
