Sahel Analyst Journal JRED 5(2),36-492705-1943https://uilspace.unilorin.edu.ng/handle/123456789/17180The purpose of the study is to examine the impact of industrialisation on employment creation in Nigeria between 1986 and 2021, vis-a-vis its prospects and challenges. The study adopted a quantitative research method where secondary sources such as journals, textbooks and internet resources were utilised to access data, using both descriptive and regression analyses. Findings from the descriptive analysis showed that Nigeria’s industrialisation unconventionally varies inversely with the rate of employment, whereas, it varies proportionally with unemployment rate. In addition, the regression results showed that even though the expansion of manufacturing, mining, construction and utilities industries alone cannot categorically solve the unemployment problem in Nigeria they could contribute significantly to employment opportunity in the country. As a result, the government should work to diversify Nigeria's economy away from the monolithic oil sector and toward the industrial sector in order to provide mass employment opportunities to its citizens.enIndustrialisationEmployment GenerationUnemploymentProspectsChallengesArticle
