The restricting activity on the internet, through the use of various electronic devices between two or more communicators (via calling, chatting, messaging etc.) has enhanced human socio- economic endeavors either positively or negatively. Some internet users in cyberspace are well cultured, they use the web for productive purposes while other users are rebellious in nature, their greed trodden as they most often times use the web for series of obscured and shady deals such as promiscuity acts, black mailing, gambling, fraudster businesses, illicit Illicit drugs and arms dealing, and to mention just a few. Those that explore the internet and pervert for criminal opportunities are cyber criminals. The study investigates the threat of ritualism and spiritualism in committing cyber crime in Nigeria. A subject that has not received sufficient academic attention and its social and economic disadvantages has largely been overlooked in government responses. Relying on available public data, this article examines the phenomenon of cyber crime among youths and the rate at which it has become intensified, using ritualism and spiritualism means to commit this heinous act. It becomes imperative to highlight the implications for society, security and possible way forward. The study adopted secondary data such as relevant journals, articles, online educational sites and print media. Anomie theory of Emile Durkheim and Robert Merton were used as theoretical explanation for the study. The study concluded that society is the womb of crime. Cyber-crime is a worldwide problem and relatively now. The strategies it has taken in Nigeria through the involvement of ritualism and spiritualism is based on belief system and practice among Africans including Nigeria. However, the role of social workers is also discussed.
