Considering the canon of cultural permissibility of the Shari'ah maxim and coalescence of the customs prevalent in Nigeria, this paper attempts to unravel the pros and cons of the former and the latter in the shade of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Historical and analytical research methods were adopted to sieve the wheat from the chaff.
