It further established the reasons for the preference. In addition to these, it finds out whether the parents' preference significantly varied on the basis of their education and residence. Thus, the population for the study consists of literate and illiterate parents residing in rural and urban areas of the LGAs. From the population, cluster sampling technique was used to sample a total of 437 parents, across their randomly selected places of work or trading. A researcher-made instrument titled Preference for Private and Public Basic School Questionnaire (PPPBSQ) was used to elicit needed data. The instrument was validated using test-re-test approach. The collected data were analyzed using percentage and Chi-square statistics.
