The Ilorin experience. A descriptive research design of survey type was adopted from the study was guided Two objectives were formulated for the study which metabolized to the two research questions. A population sample of one hundred and twenty (120) adult members who have competed adult literacy classes were purposively selected for the study. A well structured questionnaire was used to elicit relevant responses from the sample respondents and the data collected was analyzed using mean scores statistics. Findings from the study revealed that adult literacy enhance the level of security consciousness of adult members in the society; also participation of adult members in adult literacy classes promotes adult neighborhood security watch in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara state. Based on the findings it was recommended that agencies of adult education should intensify their efforts to capture more adult members in adult education programme.enArticle
