It is argued that the basis of conflict in Nigeria is due to the fact that ethno-cultural identity and solidarity are merely used by the elite to the detriment of the masses. The paper further posits that the elites usually resort to ethnic and primordial sentiment to achieve their political and economic interest. It is further asserted that the activities of the power elites must be seen as a carry-over effect from the colonial era. All these situations have been seen to give rise to conflicts and have caused so many ethno-cultural problems.enEthno-Culural ConflictsEthno-Culural Conflicts in the Nigerian Polity: A Colonial LegacyArticle
