The aim of this study is to examine the causes of differences in language use in the society and how it reflects social structure. Language use which correlates to social variables such as class, age, gender and setting in Felix Akinsipe’s The Dawn of Awareness was selected to prove that people signal aspect of their social identity through language use. Results reveal that the sociolinguistic background of speakers is reflected through their language use.
