They are the first step in achieving educational goals. Libraries are indispensable in every facet of higher education and effective library support to distance learners is mandatory for qualitative delivery of instruction and learning. The focus of this chapter is on developing information literacy skills for distant education students with emphasis on the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) library users. The author examines what information literacy is all about vis a vis: concepts; basic elements; hallmarks of an information literate individual; and symptoms of information illiteracy.
