Nigeria has facilitated the growth of SMEs through the creation of many agencies, and institutions and the promulgation of laws and regulations that aid the government in regulating and boosting the growth and development of SMEs. Therefore, this study seeks to examine government regulations' impact on SMEs' survival in Kwara State. Other specific objectives were to examine the extent to which government regulations influence the survival of SMEs and determine the nature of the relationship that exists between tax policy and the growth of SMEs. A questionnaire was served to 144 out of 226 registered SMEs in Kwara State through a stratified simple random sampling technique. The two hypotheses formulated were tested through regression and correlation analysis. The findings of the study revealed that government regulations have a significant influence on the survival of SMEs (r square = 73.2%. P-value < 0.05) and that a strong relationship exists between tax policy and the growth of SMEs (P-value < 0.05). The study therefore recommends that the government should legislate against multiple taxation and make funds available to regulatory agencies and financial institutions established statutorily to cater for the growth and survival of SMEs.enGovernment regulationsGovernment policiesSmall and Medium EnterprisesTax policyArticle
