    Empowerment and Development Strategies for the Attainment of Millennium Development Goals in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.

    This paper is on local empowerment development strategies for the attainment of MDGs in Ilorin West Local Government Area. The aim is to provide a formidable basis needed for adopting meaningful policy measures geared towards the empowerment of communities and development strategies for attaining the MDGs. The paper addressed the following issues among which are empowerment and development, the millennium development goals in perspectives, development strategies in empowering the community for the achievement of the MDGs and the challenges faced with its attainment. The paper concludes with the fact that empowerment of communities are needed to achieve the MDGs. Based on this, recommendations made were intensive awareness campaign for the people of the rural areas in Ilorin West Local Government the need for collaborative efforts between the government and community based association and extension of MDG programmes to the identified areas by the government.

    Health Advocacy and Benefits of Exclusive Breastfeeding among Nursing Mothers in Health Centers in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria.

    This study examined the level of advocacy and benefits on the exclusive breastfeeding among nursing mothers in Ilorin East LGA of Kwara State, Nigeria. The study adopted design used for this research was cross sectional survey research design. The study population consisted professional working mothers aged 40 or younger, who were in full-time employment and working in Ilorin East, LGA, Kwara State Purposive and random sampling techniques were used and sample size was 100 respondents. Questionnaire was the research instrument used in this study. Findings from the study revealed that even though the respondents were well-informed about exclusive breastfeeding, 48% of professional working mothers were able to practice exclusive breastfeeding and 52% could not practice exclusive breastfeeding according to World Health Organization recommended practice of exclusive breastfeeding. The study concluded that professional working mothers find it difficult to exclusively breastfeed their babies and full-time employment status and family members' influence undermine the practice of exclusive breastfeeding. It was recommended that government should guarantee that workplace is free of harassment and discrimination against women who prefer to breastfeed their babies through appropriate mechanisms and employers should provide nursing mothers with appropriate condition at work place to breastfeeding their babies as at when due.

    Impact of Adult Education on security consciousness and effective Neighborhood security watch in Nigeria: The Ilorin Experience

    The paper examines the impact of adult literacy on security consciousness and effective neighborhood security watch in Nigeria: The Ilorin experience. A descriptive research design of survey type was adopted from the study was guided two objectives were formulated for the study which metabolized to the wo research questions. A population sample of one hundred and twenty (120) adult members who have completed adult literacy classes were purposively selected for the study. A well-structured questionnaire was use to elicit relevant responses from the sample respondents and the data collected was analyzed using mean scores statistics. Findings from the study revealed that adult literacy enhance the level of security consciousness of adult members in the society; also, participation of adult members in adult literacy classes promotes adult neighborhood security watch in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State. Based on the findings it was recommended that agencies of adult education should intensify their efforts to capture more adult members in adult education programme

    The Use of Mother Tongue as a Medium of Instruction in Selected Pre-Primary and Primary Schools in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State

    The use of the mother tongue as a medium of instruction in early education has engendered a lot of research interests and several scholars have advocated its use in early education. The assessment of the use of the mother tongue as a medium of instruction in pre-primary and primary schools has not attracted sufficient research interest, particularly from Ijebu East Local government area of Ogun State. Thus, this study investigates the use of the mother tongue as means of communication at pre-primary and primary level. The use of mother tongue is being threatened as a result of the complexities it will pose in selecting a particular language among several languages caved together in the course of state creation. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study since there is no need to manipulate any variable. The population for this study comprised of Head Teachers, Teachers, Caregivers, Pupils and parents of pre-primary and primary schools in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State. Also, quality language teaching aids should be made available for educators in particular mother tongue.
