Item Assessment of fresh and returning undergraduates’ attitudes towards learning of Social Studies in University of Ilorin, Nigeria(Arts and Social Sciences Education Department, Faculty of Education, Al-Hikmah University Ilorin, Nigeria, 2020-06) Olokooba, Issa Nasiru; Abdulsalam, Alliyu AyodeleThis study examined fresh and returning undergraduates' attitudes towards learning of Social Studies in University of Ilorin, Nigeria. 100 level and 400 level students were sampled as the fresh and returning Social Studies undergraduates respectively using quota sampling technique. A researcher self-developed questionnaire was used for data collection while data collected were analysed using percentage. Mean was used to answer research questions while hypothesis was tested using Chi-square at 0.05 significance level. Findings of the study revealed that fresh undergraduates have positive attitude towards learning of Social Studies; returning undergraduates also have positive attitude towards learning Social Studies; and there was no significant difference between fresh and returning undergraduates‟ attitudes toward learning of Social Studies in the university. It was therefore concluded that there was no significant difference between fresh and returning undergraduate attitudes towards learning of Social Studies in the university. It was therefore recommended that emphasize should be laid on affective domain purposely to enhance learning and internalization of its contents in order to foster positive attitudes in Social Studies students.Item ASSESSMENT OF UNDERGRADUATE TEACHER TRAINEES’ AWARENESS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS(Association of Sociologists of Education in Nigeria, 2017-10) Okunloye, Rotimi William; Olokooba, Issa Nasiru; Abdulsalam, Alliyu AyodeleThe paper assessed the undergraduate teacher trainees’ awareness of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study mainly examined the awareness of undergraduate teacher trainees on perception, objectives, conceptual and operational framework of SDGs. The population of the study comprised University of Ilorin undergraduate teacher trainees. Descriptive survey design was employed in the study and a questionnaire titled “Undergraduate teacher trainees’ Awareness of Sustainable Development Goals (UASDGs)” was administered to five hundred (500) students but only 467 were returned and were used. Three research questions were raised and answered using percentage. Two null hypotheses were tested using t-test statistic at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study showed that majority of undergraduate teacher trainees were not aware of the relationship between MDGs and SDGs identified in this study, they were only aware of MDGs which were developed for actualization in 15 years and they were aware of SDGs’ objectives. Findings also showed that majority of the undergraduate teacher trainees were not aware of the conceptual and operational platform of SDGs. The findings revealed that a significant difference exists between male and female, and Arts and Social Sciences Education undergraduate teacher trainees’ awareness of SDGs. Based on the findings, it was recommended that SDGs should be introduced to the curriculum content of the university education and citizenship education and Strategies and techniques should be involved in the awareness of the undergraduate teacher trainees to enable them work towards actualization of the goals.Item Assessment of upper basic students’ attitude towards learning of sex education in schools in Osun State, Nigeria(Association of Educational Researchers and Evaluators of Nigeria, 2021-07) Olokooba, Issa Nasiru; Abdulaziz, IsiakaThis study assessed the upper basic students’ attitude towards learning of sex education in Schools in Osun State, Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to examine students’ attitude towards learning of sex education, influence of gender and age on students’ attitude towards learning of sex education. The study adopted descriptive design. The sample for the study was one hundred and fifty (150) students in selected schools using simple random sampling technique. A questionnaire titled “Upper Basic Students’ Attitude towards Learning of Sex Education Questionnaire (UBSALSEQ)” was used for data collection. Construct validity of the questionnaire were conducted by two experts in measurement and test construction. The reliability coefficient was 0.81 obtained through the use of test re-test statistical technique. The data collected were analysed using percentage and range to answer the research question while null hypotheses were tested using Chi-square statistical technique. The finding of the study showed that majority of upper basic students had positive attitude towards learning of sex education. Gender and age of the students were not significant variables on their attitude towards learning of sex education. Based on the findings, recommendations were made among others that Students should be given equal opportunities in the teaching and learning processes irrespective of their gender and age as these characteristics do not influence students’ attitude. Students should internalize the knowledge gained through sex education class to improve their well-being.Item AVAILABILITY AND USABILITY OF VISUAL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS FOR TEACHING GEOGRAPHY IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN OSUN STATE(Department of Adult and Primary Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, 2021-11) Abdulsalam, Alliyu Ayodele; Olokooba, Issa NasiruThis study investigated the availability and usability of visual instructional materials for teaching Senior Secondary School Geography in Osun State. The availability usage and the extent to which Geography teachers made use of visual instructional materials for teaching Geography in Senior Secondary Schools in Osun State were examined. The study adopted descriptive research of the survey type. One hundred and twenty-three Geography teachers in four Local Government Areas of Osun State were sampled. A questionnaire titled “Availability and Usability of Visual Instructional Materials for Teaching Geography in Senior Secondary Schools Questionnaire (AUVIMTGSSSQ)” was used as instrument for data collection. Percentages, mean and weighted mean were used to answer research questions. The findings of the study revealed that textbooks were available in all schools. Atlas map, map of Nigeria, pictures were also available in most schools while economic map, population map, contour map, temperature map, thermometer and rainguage were less available. The finding also showed that pictures, atlas map, map of Nigeria, textbooks and windvane were effectively used by the respondents while other visual instructional materials like economic map, contour map, temperature map and thermometer were not used by the respondents. The study also found that only textbooks were always used by most of the respondents (88.6% level) pictures, atlas map, map of Nigeria and models were frequently used while other visual instructional materials were less used. It was therefore, recommended that seminars and workshop should be regularly organized for teachers on the importance and advantages of using visual instructional materials in teaching and learning GeographyItem AVAILABILITY AND USE OF COMPUTER-BASED INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS (CIM) BY UPPER BASIC SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS IN ILORIN, NIGERIA(Social Sciences Education Department, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2015-03) Olokooba, Issa NasiruThe central point in the teaching and learning of Social Studies is the human resources that is Social Studies teachers and the central value of the teachers is their skillfulness and resourcefulness in identifying and selecting innovative methods and instructional materials for presenting the content of the subject. This study examined availability and use of Computer-based Instructional Materials (CIM) by upper basic Social Studies teachers in Ilorin, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. It was guided by three research questions. The sample for this study comprised 150 respondents selected through a stratified random sampling technique. The instrument is a questionnaire contained four sections. The data collected were analysed using percentage, means and standard deviation. The findings of the study showed that Computer systems are the most prominent materials that are available in the schools. All others are available in various degrees but Internet connectivity and Computer-based Encyclopedia are most unavailable in the schools. Only computer systems are occasionally used for information processing and storage purpose. Based on these findings, it was recommended that Computer-based Instructional Materials (CIM) should be made available in schools. Regular workshops, seminars, and in-service training should be organised to improve teachers’ efficiency.Item Effect of guided-discovery technique on Colleges of Education Social Studies students’ learning outcome(Intelektual Pustaka Media Utama (IPMU) in collaboration with Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science (IAES), Yogyakarta, Indonesia., 2021-08) Abdulsalam, Alliyu Ayodele; Olokooba, Issa NasiruSocial Studies teaching has been dominated by lecture and content-transmission techniques which have been associated with some weaknesses in spite of their content coverage and suitability in teaching-learning environments. Social Studies is characterized by inadequate instructional materials and poor reading culture. Learner-centered (guided-discovery) technique has been found to be very effective in enhancing learning in the physical sciences and very recently in Social Sciences. This study examined the effect of Guided-Discovery (GD) technique on Colleges of Education Social Studies students’ learning outcome in Kwara State, Nigeria. The study involved 2 x 2 x 2 randomized research design. A total of 150 students participated in the study: GD (50) and Lecture Technique (50). Three hypotheses formulated were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Social Studies Performance Tests (SSPT) was used to collect data. It was designed using National Commission for Colleges of Education curriculum and validated by four Social Studies experts. The reliability value of 0.82 was obtained for the instrument using Cronbach Alpha. ANOVA and t-test were used for data analyses. The findings of the study revealed that GD technique of teaching Social Studies was next in producing higher significant effect in students’ learning outcome than LT. Gender has no significant interactive effect on students’ learning outcome in Social Studies. The mode of entry has no significant interactive effect in the learning outcome of Colleges of Education Social Studies Students. The study concluded that GD was found to be more effective in enhancing Social Studies Students’ learning outcome in Colleges of Education in Kwara State. It was therefore, recommended that GD technique should be used in teaching Social Studies in Colleges of Education in Kwara State.Item Effective Utilization of Instructional Materials for Social Studies in Upper Basic Schools in Kwara State(Faculty of Education, Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Turkey, 2021-04) Olokooba, Issa NasiruInstructional materials provide learners with real learning experience. Learners are usually interested in concrete experiences rather than mere talk and chalk mechanism. This study investigated effective utilization of instructional materials in teaching Upper Basic Social Studies in Kwara State, Nigeria. The study adopted the descriptive research design. Purposive sampling technique was employed to sample 235 Social Studies teachers. Data collected were analysed using percentage and means to answer three research questions. The results of the findings showed that many instructional materials were available at different percentage. Social Studies teachers use some instructional materials in the teaching of the subject. Teachers’ disposition enhances their use of instructional materials. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that the school administrators should boost the morale of teachers by providing necessary instructional materials needed to achieve instructional objectives. Teachers should also be resourceful as that could motivate students to learn and perform better in their study.Item EFFECTIVENESS OF INDIVIDUALIZED AND COOPERATIVE COMPUTER-ASSISTED INSTRUCTIONAL PACKAGES ON UPPER BASIC SOCIAL STUDIES STUDENTS’ PERFORMANCE IN KWARA STATE(Science and Technology Education Department, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, 2019-02) Olokooba, Issa NasiruThis study investigated effectiveness of Individualized and Cooperative Computer-Assisted Instructional Packages on Upper Basic Social Studies students’ performance in Kwara State. Quasi-experimental study involving 3x2x2 non-randomized and non-equivalent pretest posttest control groups research design was adopted. The population of the study was all Upper Basic Social Studies students in the state. A simple random sampling technique was used to select three intact classes of basic II students, two were experimental groups and a control group. The instruments were Individualized Computer-Assisted Instructional Package, Cooperative Computer-Assisted Instructional Package and Social Studies Performance Test. The reliability of the instruments was determined using test-retest method of three weeks interval. Pearson Product Moment Correlation formula was used to analyse the data. The r obtained were 0.78, 0.79 and 0.76 respectively. Three research hypotheses were tested using ANCOVA at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that there were significant effects of ICAIP and CCAIP on Upper Basic students’ performance (F=18.92, P>0.00); there was no significant interaction effect of gender, age, ICAIP and CCAIP on Upper Basic Students’ performance in Social Studies. The study concluded that ICAIP and CCAIP were found to be more effective in enhancing Upper Basic Students’ performance than ICAIP, while ICAIP also enhances the students’ performance than conventional method. It was therefore recommended that ICAIP and CCAIP should be used in teaching Social Studies to enhance students’ performance.Item THE IMPACT OF EMIR’S MARKET ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF ILORIN EMIRATE, NIGERIA(Centre for Ilorin Studies (CILS), University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2017) Olokooba, Issa Nasiru; Abdulsalam, Alliyu Ayodele; Balogun, Idayat NikeSocio-economic development of a community is determined by the size of its market where the needs of people are made available to enhance standards of living through business transaction. As every society needs a market for its economic growth, markets are necessary for the flow of goods and services from the producers to the consumers. Emir’s Market (Oja Oba) in Ilorin is not an exception as its growing strength in both socio-economic affiliation and business transaction is admirable. The commercial activities in Emir’s market make it unique among other markets not only in Ilorin but also in Kwara State. Its impact on socio-economic development of Ilorin, and other communities both inside and outside the state cannot be underrated. This paper thus, examined the origin and development of Emir’s Market, business activities in the market and its impact on the socio-economic development of inhabitants, individuals, group of people and communities in the state. Descriptive research of Qualitative survey was adopted. Primary and secondary sources through oral interview were used to gathering information from men and women who are traders in the market and elderly members in the city. The findings of the study revealed that the market has created financial independence and employment opportunities for inhabitants as skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers in the communities around the market. The commercial activities in the market has enhanced the business transaction of the city, improved the status of individuals, groups of individuals and the society at large. The objectives of the study were to examine awareness, effects and influence of Social Studies instruction on business/economic activities in Kwara State. The study adopted descriptive design. The sample for the study was one hundred fifty (150) teachers selected using simple random sampling technique in selected schools. A questionnaire titled “Influence of Social Studies Instruction on Business/Economic Activities and Economic Recession Questionnaire (ISSIBEAERQ)” was used for the collection of data. The data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and rank order. The findings of the study revealed that Social Studies instruction made people to be aware of economic recession because through Social Studies both students and parents were informed about economic recession facing the country. The effects of economic recession on teaching and learning of Social Studies include lowered morale of Social Studies teachers, students’ inability to purchase textbooks and hindrance of effective teaching and learning of Social Studies in upper basic schools. Social Studies teachers teach and train individuals on how to cope with business/economic activities during economic recession, parents are encouraged through Social Studies instruction to be economically active and productive during the recession and making judicious use of economic opportunities and empowerment programme available in the society. Based on the findings, recommendations were made among others that Social Studies teachers should continue to encourage parents and other stakeholders to simplify the economic situations of the people through creation of awareness and sensitization.Item Prospective Teachers’ Awareness of Teacher Certification for Quality Assurance in Nigerian Education System(Educational Management Department, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, 2020-02) Olokooba, Issa Nasiru; Abdulsalam, Alliyu Ayodele; Badamas, O. L.Teaching is a profession that produces other professions all over the world in which Nigeria is not an exception. The profession is adequately certified, regulated and licensed by Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria to ensure the quality and standard in the system. The prospective teachers of teacher educational institutions are important stakeholders trained to facilitate and enhance the effective teaching and learning processes in the in the classrooms but how far are the teachers aware of teacher certification. It becomes imperative to assessed prospective teachers’ awareness of teacher certification for quality assurance in the education system. The objectives of the study were to investigate prospective teachers’ awareness of teacher certification, obligations of teachers under TRCN and, rights and privileges of registered teachers with TRCN for quality assurance in the sector. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A purposive sampling technique was employed to select three hundred students in teacher educational institutions in Kwara State. A researcher-design questionnaire was used for data collection. The data collected were analysed using percentage and means ranking. The findings of the study showed that prospective teachers were aware of some of the activities of the TRCN towards teacher certification and obligations of teachers registered under TRCN. The finding of the study also revealed that prospective teachers were not aware of rights and privileges of registered teachers with TRCN for quality assurance in the education system. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that prospective teachers should be provided with information and enlightenment about rights and privileges of registered teachers with TRCN. This serves as motivation and encouragement to the teachers.Item Prospective teachers’ views on a tabular lesson plan format in teaching practice exercise in Kwara State(Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Education, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, 2022-04) Olokooba, Issa Nasiru; Uyanne, Elizabeth ObiageliThis research examined prospective teachers’ views on a tabular format lesson plan in teaching practice exercise in Kwara State. Specifically, this study examined the prospective teachers’ views, extent of use, challenges and ways to improve tabular format lesson plan. The population of the study comprised 400l students in the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin. The sample for this study comprised 240 respondents selected using simple random sampling technique. Descriptive survey design was employed and a questionnaire titled “Prospective Teachers’ Views on a Tabular Format Lesson Plan Questionnaire (PTVTFLPQ)” was used for data collection. Four research questions were raised and answered. The findings of the study revealed that tabular format lesson plan served as a blueprint/guideline to prospective teachers in teaching practice exercise. The findings of the study showed that the teachers frequently used tabular format lesson plan. The findings also revealed that challenges associated with using tabular format lesson plan were problem of allocating time to different stages of activities on the lesson plan and inability of the teachers to predict students’ activities before class. The findings of the study also identified the ways to improve the use of tabular format lesson plan. Based on the findings, it was recommended that prospective teachers should be more encouraged in the use of tabular format lesson plan as it enhance effective teaching and behavioral objectives should cover all the domains of learning such as the cognitive, affective and the psychomotor domains of learning when writing a lesson plan.Item Relationship between Peer-Group Influence and Moral Activities among in School Adolescents in Kwara State(Faculty of Social Sciences, Universitas Negeri Semarang, Indonesia, 2021-12) Uyanne, E. O.; Olokooba, Issa NasiruThis study investigated the relationship between peer group influence and moral activities among in-school adolescents in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to investigate level of in-school adolescent, types of moral actions displayed and relationship between peer group influence and moral activities among in-school adolescents in the state. The study adopted descriptive design. The sample for the study was one hundred and fifty (150) students in selected schools using simple random sampling technique. Two questionnaires were validated by experts. The reliability of the instruments was obtained through the test-retest method. The data collected were analyzed using PPMC and a reliability index of 0.73 was obtained. The data collected were analyzed using percentages to answer two research questions while null hypothesis was tested using Chi-square at 0.05 level of significance. The finding of the study revealed that the level of in-school adolescent on peer group influence is high. It was revealed from the finding of the study that the main types of moral actions displayed by in-school adolescent was social contract orientation. The study’s finding showed that there was no significant relationship between peer group influence and moral activities among in-school adolescents. Based on the findings, recommendations were made among others that teachers should pay more attention to students’ moral development in order to achieve the goals of senior secondary school.Item ROLES OF TRADITIONAL RULERS IN CONFLICT RESOLUTION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA(Social Studies Association of Nigeria, 2020-04) Abdulsalam, Alliyu Ayodele; Olokooba, Issa Nasiru; Okafor, Ifeoma P.; Adika, Adedoyin ChristianaThis research examined the roles of traditional rulers in conflict resolution in Kwara State, Nigeria. The study population consisted of traditional rulers in the state. The study adopted a descriptive survey type, 180 members of traditional rulers were sampled through simple random sampling technique. The researchers’ designed questionnaire titled Roles of Traditional Rulers in Conflict Resolution Questionnaire was used as an instrument to elicit data from the respondents. The findings of the study showed that traditional rulers had many roles they play in conflict resolution in all ramifications. The study also revealed that there was no significant difference in the roles of traditional rulers in conflict resolution based on age and marital status. Based on the findings of the study, it was therefore, recommended that traditional rulers in the state should be familiar with the issues that are germane among individuals, social groups as well as providing the possible resolution to any conflict among them in the state purposely to enhance and facilitate sustainable democracy in the society.Item School variables and upper basic students’ performance in Social Studies in Ilorin, Kwara State(Social Sciences Education Department, Faculty of Education, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria, 2020-09) Olokooba, Issa NasiruThis study investigated influence of school variables on Upper Basic students' performance in Social Studies in Ilorin, Kwara State. The study adopted descriptive survey method. Stratified Random Sampling Technique was employed to select six upper basic schools consisting of public and private, single and co-educational as well as day and boarding schools in Ilorin, Kwara State. Purposive sampling technique was used to select thirty upper basic II students in each selected school in Ilorin. A total of one hundred and eighty (180) upper basic students was sampled in the study. Proforma was used to collect the students' scores for data analysis. The data obtained were analyzed using t-test statistic. Based on the analyzed data, the findings of the study showed that school ownership has a significant influence on upper basic students' performance in Social Studies. School type and school structure are not statistically significant on students' performance in Social Studies in the upper basic schools. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that quality and standard of the teaching and learning in public schools should be given priority by all stakeholders in education, academic competition and cooperation should be encouraged among students in public and private schools and regular comparative analysis of public and private school students' performance in various subjects should be encouraged.Item SOCIAL MEDIA IMPACTS ON UNDERGRADUATES’ INVOLVEMENT IN DIGITAL MARKETING IN UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN(Association for Innovative Technology Integration in Education, 2022-03) Olokooba, Issa NasiruThe rate at which undergraduates involve in digital marketing through social media called for rapid attention as many of them do not see the opportunities as economic advantages over personal contact market. The study investigated social media impacts on undergraduates' involvement in digital marketing in University of Ilorin. The objectives of the study were to investigate prevalent social media, extent of using, undergraduates’ attitudes towards digital marketing and impacts of social media on undergraduates’ involvement in digital marketing. The study adopted a descriptive survey design, 200 undergraduates were selected using simple random sampling technique. A researcher designed questionnaire titled “Social Media Impact on Undergraduates' Involvement in Digital Marketing Questionnaire” was used for data collected. The reliability value of 0.82 was obtained for the instrument using Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistical technique. The findings of the study identified the prevalence of social media among undergraduates and the extent of social media usage as tools in digital marketing. The finding of the study also revealed that undergraduates had positive attitudes towards digital marketing, there were impacts of social media on undergraduates' involvement in digital marketing. Studies had been conducted in other subject areas. However, studies of that type are not common in Civic Education which is relatively new in the Nigerian Secondary School curriculum. This paper examines students’ perception of difficulty levels of the Nigerian Senior School Civic Education Syllabus (SSSCES) and the factors associated with their perception. The population for the study comprised all Civic Education students in Osun State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study and a researcher-designed instrument titled Civic Education Syllabus Perception Questionnaire (CESPQ) was administered to 487 students drawn from 25 Senior Secondary Schools in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria. The three research questions raised for the study were answered using percentage, mean and standard deviation statistics. The results showed that the Senior Secondary School Civic Education Syllabus (SSSCES) topics are perceived by students to be of varying difficulty levels ranging from difficult to very simple with an absolute of them being predominantly very simple. The observed difficulty levels were associated with inadequate textbooks, teachers’ presentation of lessons and wide content coverage. These imply that Civic Education is learnable and curriculum objectives are achievable. Based on these findings, it was recommended that teachers should enhance the learnability of the few perceived difficult topics by students through the use of predominantly learner-centred strategies and more learner-friendly strategies to teach the subject.Item TEACHER VARIABLES AND USE OF COMPUTER ASSISTED INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS (CAIM) IN UPPER BASIC SOCIAL STUDIES IN KWARA STATE(Educational Technology Department, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, 2016) Olokooba, Issa Nasiru; Abdulsalam, Alliyu AyodeleTeachers are the most important agents for the successful implementation of educational programme. They play vital roles on educational innovations and their application in teaching and learning process to assist learners in the acquisition of concrete and rewarding school experience, Social Studies teachers are not exception. This study examined teacher variables and use of Computer Assisted Instructional Materials (CAIM) in Upper Basic Social Studies in Kwara State. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population for this study covered all upper basic social studies teachers in Kwara State. Sample for this study comprised 150 respondents sampled through a stratified random sampling technique. The instrument was a questionnaire titled “Computer Assisted Instructional Materials in Social Studies Assessment Checklist (CAIMSSAC)” with a reliability 0f 0.83. The data collected were analysed using percentage for the research questions while hypotheses were tested using t-test statistic. The findings of the study showed that CAIM are not frequently used by Social Studies teachers for instructional purposes. Only computer systems are occasionally used for information processing and storage. The study revealed that there is no statistically significant different between male and female (t=0.12, p>0.05), qualified and unqualified teachers (t=0.02, p>0.05), and experienced and less experienced Social Studies teachers (t=0.27, p>0.05) on the use of CAIM. Based on these findings, it was recommended that teachers should be encouraged to be computer literate and frequently use CAIM for teaching. Regular workshops, seminars, and in-service training should be organised to improve teachers’ efficiency on the usage of CAIM.Item Teachers’ attitudes towards inclusive educational practices in upper basic schools in Ilorin, Nigeria(Institute of Education, Faculty of Education, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba- Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, 2020-09) Balogun, Idayat Nike; Olokooba, Issa NasiruThis research work explored the attitudes of teachers towards inclusive educational practices in upper basic schools in Ilorin, Nigeria. It adopted a descriptive research design. Eight schools from public and seven from private were selected, using purposive random sampling technique. 200 respondents were selected from selected schools using simple random sampling technique. One research question was answered and three null hypotheses were tested. Data collected through a researcher designed questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that the attitudes of the teachers towards inclusive educational practices was negative. The finding of the study also showed that, years of teaching experience is not a determinant of teachers’ attitude towards inclusive education as there was no significant difference in the attitude of teachers based on years of experience. Finally, it was also discovered that teachers do not have different opinion in their perception on the inclusive educational practices. Based on these findings, it was recommended that students with special needs should be placed in a separate school so that teachers who are trained specifically for students who falls into such category would equip them passionately with necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes that make them responsible and recognisable members of their society.
