Item Attitudinal and Practical Differences between Male and Female Primary Healthcare Workers towards Prevention of Healthcare-Associated Infection in Kwara-North Senatorial District(Department of Health, Safety and Environmental Education, Faculty of Education, University of Benin, 2021-11) Kperogi, Ibrahim Ismaila; Abdulrasaq, Qazeem Onaolapo; Ologele, Ibrahim; Abdulraheem, Adijat Mojisola; James, Joke FeliciaThis study examined Attitudinal and Practical Differences between Male and Female Primary Healthcare Workers (PHCWs) towards Prevention of. Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) in Kwara-North Senatorial District. The objectives of this research were to examine the attitudinal and practical differences between male and female primary healthcare workers towards prevention of healthcare-associated infections in Kwara-North Senatorial District. The study adopted a descriptive research design of the survey type, using a multi stage random sampling technique to select 760 PHCWs in Kwara North Senatorial District. Pretested semi structured questionnaire was used to collect data from selected PHCWs, while Mean and standard deviations as well as one sample t- test statistics were used to analyze the data on research questions and hypotheses respectively. Level of significance used was set at P. value < 0.05. It was observed that there were more female PHCWs that had better attitude towards prevention of infections than their male counterparts. More so, higher number of the female PHCWs had good practice of preventive measures during healthcare delivery process than their male counterparts (calculated t-value of 11.102 is greater than 1.972 t critical at df 758). It was therefore concluded that there was good attitude and practice among female PHCWs on preventive measures against HAIs in Kwara-North Senatorial District (calculated t-value of 20.313 is greater than 1.972 t critical at df 758). It.was recommended that there is need to intensify refresher trainings on the importance of safety measures towards improving the attitudes and practices of preventing HAIs among PHCWs in Kwara-North Senatorial District.Item Causes of incomplete immunization among under-one year old in Ilorin south local government area, Kwara state, Nigeria(Department of Health Promotion and Environmental Health Education, 2015) Onifade, O. A.; Ologele, Ibrahim; James, J. F.; Abdulrasaq, Qazeem OnaolapoAbstract Incomplete immunization has led to increase in the number of infections which children suffer from and which could have been prevented if completed. This study investigated the causes of incomplete immunization among under-one year olds in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. A descriptive research design of survey type was adopted. The population of the study comprises of all the nursing mothers resided in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. A sample of 220 nursing mothers selected from routine immunization centers were the respondents for the study. Multi-stage sampling techniques of purposive, stratified and simple random sampling were used to select the respondents. Researchers’ designed questionnaire validated by 3 experts in the area of study was used for the study. A test re-test method was used to ascertain the reliability of the instrument, a correlation coefficient of 0.70r was obtained. Four trained research assistants helped in data collection while chi-square statistics was used to test the hypotheses set for the study at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The findings showed that: 1. poor access to immunization centers had no significant influence on incomplete immunization of under-one year olds (12.45 < 16.92); 2. non availability of material resources had no significant influence on incomplete immunization of under-one year olds (13.55 < 16.92); and 3. poor utilization of immunization services had no significant influence on incomplete immunization of under-one year olds (18.14 > 16.92). It was concluded that poor access of mothers to immunization centers was not the causes of incomplete immunization among under one year old in the study area, non availability of material resources at the immunization centers was not the causes of incomplete immunization among under one year old and poor utilization of immunization services by mothers was the causes of incomplete immunization of under-one year old in the area. The study was a descriptive research of survey type which covers population of all secondary school students in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State. Through stratified and simple random sampling technique, a sample of 200 respondents was selected. Questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collection. A test-re-test was conducted and reliability coefficient (r) of 0.89 was obtained. Data collected was analyzed with inferential statistics involving Pearson Product Moment Correlation at 0.05 level of significance. The study concluded that there is significant relationship between early sexual activities and sexually transmitted diseases among secondary school student in Olorunda since calculated r-value of .308 is greater than critical r of 0.116 at degree of freedom of 198 at 0.05 level of significance and there is significant relationship between substance abuse and sexually transmitted diseases among teenagers in secondary schools in Olorunda since calculated r-value of .497 is greater than critical-r of 0.116 at degree of freedom of 198 at 0.05 level of significance. Data collection was conducted by the researcher and three trained research assistants. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentage for demographic information as well as inferential statistics of Chi-square (X2) to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The findings of the study showed that: 1. Poor breastfeeding was perceived as a significant factor responsible for malnutrition among under 5 children because calculated X2 value (56.8) > critical value (5.99); 2. Poor diet was perceived as a significant factor responsible for malnutrition among under 5 children because calculated X2 value (30.6) > critical value (5.99); and 3. Poverty was perceived as a significant factor responsible for malnutrition among under 5 children because calculated X2 value (118.6) > critical value (5.99).
