Item Agitation and Protest against the British Colonial Policies in Ilorin 1823- 1936(Faculty of Arts, University of ilorin, 2003) Ibrahim, B.O.Discontents, protests, and agitations were not peculiar to ilorin Community during the colonial period. Rather, they were rampant among various communities in Nigeria as it was the case in the other colonized nations. The Aba Women's Riot of 1929 over the fear that women were going to be taxed is an example. There were several types of violent resistance. Some were carried out by individuals like King Kosoko of Lagos, or Nana of Ebrohioni, while others were by organizations, such as the Ekumeku of Asaba and the Ezza of the Ibo. Further still, other forms of resistance were mixtures of violence and diplomacy. The Aro of Arockhukwu offered the impression that they were friendly and that they would embrace colonial administration if the colonizers would hold talks on the subject with them. By this method, the Aros contained the British for more than five years between 1896*'and 1901 (Aghenta, 1978:60-63). Other types of resistance or protest were spontaneous as a result of certain measures by the British that were totally unacceptable to those concerned such as the Aba Women's Riot, the Okeho Iseyin uprising of 1916, and the liorin revolts. Equally, some resistance may be non¬ violent. The famous in this category was the case of King Jaja of Opobo in 1887 (Ikime, 1977: 41-43). On the theory of "protest", AM A Mazrui categorized it into four; protests of conservation, restoration, transformation and correction, (Mazrui, 1970:185-196). These were the methods by which peoplereacted against, and rejected, the imposed foreign politica!, social and economic rule. yc The people of llorin therefore, having noticed the gradual disintegration of their much cherished traditional values and authorities, took measures, not only to react but also to protest (Alhaji Ubadanwaki, 1999). This work is therefore aimed at examining the peoples' reactions against imposition of colonial taxes and other administrative changes. Though the revolts were brutally crushed and major participants were punished, most of what they reacted against were equally removed by the colonial authorities.Item British Adulteration of Traditional Political system in Nigeria: An Overview of Ilorin Emirate(Arewa House, Amodu Bello University, 2016-06-04) Ibrahim, B.O.The abolition of Slave Trade and the adoption of legitimate trade which mobilized explorers from different parts of Europe to Africa provided a new phase of African history. Apart from the scramble by the Europeans to establish areas of influence and control that would have resulted to conflict which was averted by the 1884/1885 Berlin Conference and Charter, the eventual process by which different European authorities’ interests were effected, generated diverse interpretations of African Scholars to provide Explanations for the current situation and on different aspects. In a number of places, the establishments of British Colonial rule were certainly not mutual. Hence, the use of the West Africa Frontier Force (WAFF) to complement other diplomatic efforts to tinker with the indigenous political system to accommodate the colonial interest. History, being the veritable source of validating Traditional African Political institutions and its dynamics has been embrowned in challenges propelled by varying interests of scholars of African history. The diverse opinion of scholars on Emirate history and specifically the history of llorin Emirate falls into this category. An overview qf llorin Emirate history through the periscope of British interest and influence will go a long way to further illuminate the gray areas of the Emirate’s past, for better understanding of the present traditional political structure.Item Effect of Habitat and Processing Methods on The Microbial and Proximate Composition of Africa Catfish Clarias Gariepinus In Ilorin Metropolis.(Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (Western chapter)., 2018-06-08) Kolawole, F.L.; Balogun, M.A.; Sule, I.O.; Ibrahim, B.O.Item GUILD SYSTEM IN THE ECONOMYOF ILORIN EMIRATE (NORTHERN NIGERIA): A CASE STUDY OF INDIGENOUS CRAFTS BEFORE 1960(Faculty of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Al- Hikmah University, Ilorin, 2016-12) Ibrahim, B.O.The guilds system is an occupational based economic practice for the promotion of enterprise. It symbolized an empowerment or credit scheme for the members of the merchant class. For Ilorin Emirate, the guild system was a pre-colonial economic system that was sustained up to the colonial era and beyond. By using relevant source materials, the study focuses on indigenous crafts in colonial Ilorin Province. The trust of our exercise therefore is to critically analyze these traditional guild systems with a view to bringing it into limelight, since the modern industries had failed to provide employment for the hundreds of thousands of graduates coming out of our schools. In view of this, the study concludes that the various old guilds need to be encouraged and developed to perform the necessary role of jointly training and employing our young school leavers.Item HISTORICAL ANALYSIS OF KWARA PAPER CONVERTERS LIMITED ERIN- ILE, KWARA STATE OF NIGERIA, 1985-1999(University of Cape Coast press, 2016) Ibrahim, B.O.The impact of industrial development in Nigeria, nay Kwara State has been quit revealing. These instruments were exchange rate, deregulation of interest rates, trade liberalization and privatization/commercialization of public enterprises. It is noteworthy that the general economy of Ilorin and its environ as in other African society before 1900 was very active, contrary to rather dormant and totally unimpressive picture painted by people like high Trevor- Ropers, that African have no past and therefore no history. A cursory look at the pre-colonial economic activities in Ilorin shows that both male and female in the town were highly enterprising. Apart from farming in which both sexes jointly practice, especially at the harvest stage, there were some specific crafts which were regarded as exclusively preserved for women or men as the case might be. The reason for this could partly be explained by the peoples’ culture which regarded women as a weaker sex with fragile feminine frame. Thus, they were not allowed to engage in energy sapling vocations. Also, men often placed the responsibility of preparation for sale of some portion of their farm produce to their women, because the men were busier on the farm. These responsibilities however gave the women folks intricate knowledge of markets and indirectly opened them up to marketing. That was why women where the most noticed in the pre colonial Ilorin market. Markets served other purposes in Ilorin. They served as social and religious foral like place to court and meet lovers. It also served as religions link since central mosque were located close to the markets and for communication purposes beside buying and selling. Thus before 1900, the economic activities of Ilorin emirate exceeded the subsistence level to a commercial level. As indicated in the work, the markets in the villages were well attended with supply of products why those in the bigger towns enjoyed national and international patronages. For instance, Alapa, Afon and Megida as well as some courters in Oke Imale and Magaji Ngeri markets supplied items to the principal markets in Ilorin which attracted customers from distant places. Using both primary and secondary historical sources the chapter have been able to reveal that market in Ilorin Emirate serve more than a center of commerce.Item SHELTERING NIGERIANS: THE CONTRIBUTION OF KAMWIL GROUP OF INDUSTRIES LIMITED ILORIN, KWARA STATE 1996-2013(Babcock University,School of Education and Humanities,Ilishan-Remo,Ogun State, 2016) Ibrahim, B.O.Attempt to industrialized Nigeria nay Kwara State was not left for the government alone. Therefore, we view state formation not only as a historical process, but also as amatterof degree, something to be achieved in stages. It also follows that at any given time, integration in a plural society is not an all or nothing affairs, but a progressive compromise between integration of the whole and autonomy of the parts. The process adopted by many African countries to achieve some level of togetherness over the years is die subject of this chapterItem A STUDY OF FACTORS INFLUENCING CHOICE OF HISTORY IN KWARA STATE SECONDARY SCHOOLS.(Faculty of Education, University of llorin, Nigeria, 1999) Ibrahim, B.O.In recent past, history as a subject in secondary schools across the nation and the world at large was regarded as the core subject in the Humanity or Arts classes. Various factors responsible for low patronage of history are discussed and ways out provided to assist and elicit students' interest in the subject.Item Water made easy: The role of Sachet water Industries in Kwara State 1985-2014(Department of Religion and Philosophy, Benue State University, Makurdi, Nigeria, 2016-06) Ibrahim, B.O.This paper addresses the contribution of sachet water producers in Kwara State in alleviating the suffering of the people in the area of making clean water available for consumption and other domestic issues.
