Item Assessment of Instructional Competency and Resources for Adult Literacy learners in Kwara State: Perspectives of Learners and Instructors.(African Journal of Education Studies (AJOESI). The Faculty of Education University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria., 2016-07-01) Ambali, T.T.; Abdullahi, A.K.; Mohammed, R.M.O.This study examined instructional competency and resources for adult literacy learners from the perspective of learners and Instructors in Kwara State. The paper has a research question and one (1) hypothesis to guide the study. Multi-stage sampling procedure was adopted; at the first stage cluster sampling technique was used to select sixteen (16) adult literacy centers’ in each of the Local Government Areas in Kwara State. At the second stage, simple random sampling technique was adopted to draw eighty (80) adult literacy instructors and eighty (80) learners. A structured interview and questionnaire were used as the instruments for data collection. And also, teaching assessment format was designed by the researchers, to assess instructors’ instructional competency. The data collected were subjected to appropriate statistical analysis; mean rating and t-test were used. Hypothesis formulated for the study was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that the perspective level of instructors and learners is high and insignificant difference exited in the perspective level of instructors and learners on instructional competency and resources in adult teaching and learning. Based on the findings, recommendations were proffered for the instructors and Agency for Mass Literacy amongst which was that government should make provision for more instructional materials, employ more personnel and allowance of instructors should be paid as at when due.Item Assessment of Rehabilitation and Welfare of Drug Addicted Youths in selected correctional institutions in Kano State.(Journal of Nigerian National Council for Adult Education. A Journal of Nigerian National Council for Adult Education., 2016-09-12) Abdullahi, A.K.The high rate of drug abuse among youths and adults is a global phenomenon which has served as a long- standing problem, resulting to increased delinquency in our society today. The study assessed the welfare of drug addicted inmates in selected correctional Institutions in Kano State, Nigeria. The descriptive survey research design was adopted. There were two research objectives, research questions and hypotheses to guide the study. The population for the study comprised male and female inmates who resided in the identified correctional institutions within Kano State. A total of 75 inmates were considered as the population of the study. A minimum sample size of 60 respondents was used for this study using the purposive sampling technique to select respondents who volunteer to participated in the study. The questionnaire and structured interview were used as the major research instruments for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, t-test and One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Hypotheses formulated were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that most of the inmates were in poor health condition on admission and the government was able to meet up with the welfare of drug addicted inmates. Among other things the study recommended that counselling centres should be established in every community by the government and private individuals so as to counsel drug addicts and dependent.Item Availability and Utilization of Information and Communication Technology among Instructors in Adult and Non-Formal Education Centers in Kwara State, Nigeria.(Open University of Sri Lanka Journal., 2021-06-01) Ambali, T.T.; Abdullahi, A.K.; Sholagberu, A.O; Kayode, S.TThis study examined the availability and utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) among instructors in adult and non-formal education centers in Kwara State, Nigeria. Three objectives were raised and translated to research questions to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and 271 was considered as the target populations comprising male and female instructors. A sample size of one hundred and sixty (160) respondents was selected across the State. A multi-stage sampling procedure consisting of cluster sampling, purposive sampling and simple random sampling was adopted. Check list and questionnaire were used as an instrument for data collection for the study. The reliability of instruments was achieved using test-retest technique and a co-efficient 0.82 was obtained. The administration of the instruments was carried out by the researchers and five volunteer field research assistants. The data collected was analyzed using frequency count and percentages. One of the findings revealed that the level of utilization of ICT among instructors was low. It is therefore, recommended that there is a need to create awareness among instructors on the level of utilization of ICT to increase the level of consciousness for effective teaching learning process.Item Cooperate Social Responsibility of Airtel Nigeria towards Youths Empowerment and well-being of people in Lagos Metropolis, Lagos State, Nigeria.(Journal of Educational Thought. A publication of Department of Adult Education, University of Lagos., 2019-05-07) Nasiru, H.; Ambali, T.T; Abdullahi, A.K.This study examined corporate social responsibility of Airtel Nigeria towards Youth Empowerment and well-being of the people in Lagos Metropolis. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The target population of the study were 4,174 comprise male and female A sample size of 250 respondents were selected through multi-stage sampling procedure. A self-designed questionnaire was used for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was done using test re-test technique and a co-efficient 0.85 was obtained through Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). The administration of the instrument was done by the researchers and four field research assistants. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics: frequency counts, percentages and mean scores. The findings of the study revealed that the lack of accurate data, inadequate funding are the challenges facing Airtel Nigeria in providing social responsibility. The study therefore, recommended that: Airtel Nigeria should use survey data to conclude on any project or programme intended for the youth. Accurate data of youth residing in Lagos metropolis, as well as challenges facing the youth should be put into consideration in planning any cooperate social responsibility programmes.Item Effectiveness use of Fulfude Language for Instruction in Adult Literacy Programme among Nomads in Kwara State, Nigeria.(Bayero Journal of Education in Africa. Published by Faculty of Education, Bayero University Kano, Nigeria., 2016-12-05) Abdullahi, A.K.; Aliyu, G.M.This study investigated the effectiveness of Fulfulde as language of instruction in adult literacy among Nomads in Kwara State. The study adopted a pre-test post-test quasi-experimental research design to enable the researchers to obtain the performance of the learners. The paper has two (2) research questions and one (1) hypothesis to guide the study. The population for the study covered all nomadic adult learners. Twenty (20) Nomads learners were sampled using a purposive sampling technique from two adult literacy centers’ in Asa and Moro Local Government Areas in Kwara State. The participants were randomly assigned to experimental group (Fulfulde Language) and control group (English Language), were taught with detailed instructional programme in Social Studies which was designed in both languages. The researchers used 20 multiple choice questions tagged Social Studies Performance Test as the instrument. It was administered on both groups in pre-test and post-test simultaneously by the researchers and three trained research assistants that were familiar with the interpretation of the content of the instrument in the language of the immediate environment (Fulfulde language) of the respondents (Nomadic adult learners). Mean and standard deviation were used to answer research questions while Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. Among the findings of the study revealed that learners instructed with Fulfulde language shown a great improvement in their performance. The study recommends that the Mass Literacy Agencies should encourage the use of mother tongue or the language of the immediate environment of the learner as the language of instruction in the post literacy and nomadic schools, by adopting the use of Fulfulde language as the medium of instruction among pastoral nomads.Item Factors of female participation in University Education in Nigeria: Policy Direction towards achieving SDG4.(International Journal of Psychology Education (IJOPE). An Official Journal of Department of Psychology & Education, University of Education, Winneba, Ghana., 2019-12-15) Ambali, T.T; Fajonyomi, A.A.; Fajonyomi, M.G.; Abdullahi, A.K.This study examined the factors that influenced female participation in university education and identified factors that could be monitored and manipulated to enhance participation. The data collected to determine female participation consisted of students proportion admitted into various courses of study in Nigerian universities over four years while those used for regression analysis were collated by states and the FCT. The results of the analyses revealed that female participation rate in university education, based on year, ranged from 44.3% to 46.5% and on the basis of course of study, it oscillated between 13.9% for engineering, technology and environment courses and 56.6% for education. Also, the seven independent variables explained 94.5% of variance in female participation in university education. The results of the study suggest the need to recognize the complexities and range of supports required to enhance female participation in university education and by extension to reduce gender inequalities common in education, politics, and governance and generally in the society. It is recommended among others there is need for policies that will induce more collaboration and interaction among various organs and agencies within and outside the university, particularly those that would ensure inclusiveness of university education and guarantee sustainable development.Item Impact of Entrepreneurship Education on Job Creation and Employability of Undergraduate students of Higher Institutions of Learning in Kwara State, Nigeria.(Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria., 2021-11-07) Ambali T. O.,; Abdullahi, A.K.; Sholagberu, A.O.; Mohammed, R.M.O.This study examined the impact of entrepreneurship education on job creation and employability of undergraduate students of higher institutions of learning in Kwara State, Nigeria. Four objectives were raised and translated to research questions to guide the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and 9,283 was considered as the target populations comprising male and female students. A sample size of 361 respondents was selected. Multi-stage sampling procedure was adopted to select respondents that will be participate in the study. At the first stage, a cluster sampling technique would be used to sample higher institutions offering Entrepreneurship as a compulsory general course within Kwara State. At the second stage, stratified sampling would be adopted, because the population was group or divided into higher institution of learning: University of Ilorin and Kwara State University. A self-developed questionnaire was used as the research instrument for data collection. The reliability test of the questionnaire was done using test retest technique and a co-efficient 0.87 was obtained. The administration of the instrument was done by the researcher and three field research assistants. The administration of the instrument was carried out by the researchers and three volunteer field research assistants. The data collected was analyzed using mean rating and standard deviation. One of the findings revealed that the provision training that enables students acquire specialized skills, to acquire skills for self-reliance and for manpower training are the factors responsible for implementation of entrepreneurship education and job creation. It is therefore, recommended that entrepreneurship education providers should encourage more participation in vocational training that enables students acquire specialized skills for self-reliance and manpower training.Item Impact of National Directorate of Employment Vocational Training Programme on Living Standard of participants in Kwara State.(IBBUL Development Education Journal [IDEJ]. Department of Continuing Education and Community Development, Ibrahim Babangida University Lapai, Nigeria., 2016-07-03) Ambali, T.T.; Abdullahi, A.K.This study focused on the impact of National Directorate of Employment vocational training programme on participants’ standard of living in Kwara State. The paper has one research question and three (3) hypotheses to guide the researchers. Survey design was used and sample for the study comprised one hundred and fifty (150) respondents randomly selected from various vocational centers across the three (3) Senatorial Districts in Kwara State. A questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. The reliability co-efficient of the instrument was done using test retest technique. A reliability coefficient of 0.87 was obtained which revealed that the instrument was reliable enough to carry out the study. The data collected were subjected to appropriate analysis such as frequency counts, percentage, t-test and Analysis of Variance. All hypotheses formulated for the study were tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that vocational training has improved quality of life of the participants in the state and there were no differences on the impact based on gender, age and working experience. Based on the findings recommendations were proffered for the participants and the Directorate amongst which was that government should make provision for more resettlement items to enable the Directorate to settle more participants as they complete the programme.Item Inclusive Lifelong Education and Training in Skill Development of Labour Force: Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS).(Centre point Journal Humanities Edition. Library and Publications Committee, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria., 2018-12-13) Abdullahi, A.K.This study examined inclusive life-long education in skill development and labour force performance with reference to the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS). Descriptive survey research design was adopted. The paper had one research question and three hypotheses to guide the study. The population for the study comprised the participants enrolled for advanced studies of the Institute. A purposive sampling technique was adopted and one hundred and ten (110) respondents were selected. A self-developed questionnaire tagged “Lifelong Education and Skill Development Questionnaire (LLETSDQ)” was used as an instrument for data collection. It was validated by an expert in the field of measurement and evaluation. The reliability co-efficient of the instrument was carried out using test re-test technique, an index of 0.83 was obtained. Responses to these items were taken on a four (4) point Likert scale type rating. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). All the decisions were taken at 0.05 level of significance. One of the findings of the study revealed that labourers were not encouraged to partake in the Institute’s programme. The study recommended that the government should place emphasis on continuing education of personnel in both the private and the public sectors of the economy. Besides, trade unions should encourage their members across the country, through the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), to participate in programmes of the Institute for the benefit of updating their skills.Item Mapping and the Relevance of National Youth Service Corps Community Development Projects in Kwara State.(Community Development Association of Nigeria, Department of Adult Education University of Ibadan., 2015-03-15) Abdullahi, A.K.This study mapped National Youth Service Corps Community Development Projects in Kwara State as well as discussed the relevance of the projects to the communities concerned. The descriptive research was adopted for the study. The paper has three objectives of the study. The population for the study consists of male and female across the sixteen (16) Local Government Areas in Kwara State. A purposive sampling technique was employed to draw one hundred and sixty (160) respondents; ten in each of the Local Government. A pro forma was designed by the researcher and used as an instrument for collecting data from the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) headquarters in Ilorin on the numbers of community development service (CDS) projects executed across the state from 2011-2015. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) conducted was conducted by the researcher with five trained research assistants that were familiar with the interpretation of the content of the questions in the language of the immediate environment of the participants and as an instrument for data collection for the study. Information and data obtained from the NYSC Kwara State Headquarter and focus group discussions were presented in a tables, map, pie chart and graph. The findings of the study revealed that Community Development Projects were relevant to the needs of the various communities. Among other things the study recommended that the community members should be involved in the conception, planning and implementation of the projects to guarantee ownership of such projects by the communities.Item Promoting Socio-Cultural Heritage among youths in Ilorin Emirate: Perspectives of Adults in teaching the Youth.(In Z. The descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The study population comprises. The study sample comprised males and females across the five (5) Local Government Areas of Ilorin Emirate Council Asa, Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Moro. Multi-stage sampling procedure was adopted, at the first stage purposive sampling technique was used to draw sixty (60) adult respondents who actively or directly participated in selected cultural activities. Also, cluster sampling technique was adopted to draw four hundred (400) respondents (youths). Two major research instruments were used for data collection; structured interview and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The instrument was validated by experts in the fields of adult education and test and measurement. The reliability co-efficient of the instrument was done using test retest technique and 0.83 was obtained. The data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentages and mean rating. From the findings of study, it can be deduced that youths were not actively participating in socio-cultural activities of their immediate environment. Thus, the study recommended that the adult members of the society should educate the young generation on the importance of culture. Besides; the Ilorin Emirate Council should partner with the tertiary institutions, colleges and research institutions. Such as Centre for Ilorin Studies (CILS) University of Ilorin, Ilorin as to promote our cultural heritage among the youths.
